Today marks my two weeks before returning back to the States. It’s hard to believe I’ve already been here for 10 weeks when I feel like I was just getting off the plane! So I’ve been reflecting on the amazing summer I’ve had and thought I would share a little. :)
First off I honestly loved every second of my time here. I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing summer! Joe and I had a wonderful time traveling around to all the different cities and it was just perfect to spend so much time together. I will say though that I’m starting to itch for some routine again. I’m impressed with myself that it took me this long to miss my routine so I think I should win an award for learning how to be a little lazy. (For those of you who really know me, you know that being lazy is not something that comes easily to me!) So in some ways I’m looking forward to being back home and having my routine back. But not looking forward to the distance again! I’m getting excited about school though and just ordered some of my textbooks to be shipped to my parents so that’s exciting. :) I can’t believe at the end of this year I’ll have my masters and will be able to add some letters to my name! :) (MSW and eventually LGSW (licensed graduate social worker.) I’m sure the year will fly by because last year certainly did. :)
Joe and I really got to experience so much this summer too which is incredible. While sailing we were discussion places we’ve been to and Joe’s co-worker said Joe has been to more places than he has. (His co-worker is about 20 years our senior and has lived in Denmark his whole life.) It was kind of amazing to me that we had been more places but it also made me grateful for the experiences we were able to have here together! :) It’s hard to pick one specific city that stands out as the best or my favorite because I liked all of the places we visited for different reasons. If I had to pick one I think it would be Barcelona though. I loved being there and seeing all the architecture and being at the beach, it was wonderful! I also loved Copenhagen and getting to celebrate my birthday there with Joe. But like I said, each city had something new to offer. Warsaw was a great place to visit and see where my family is from and explore the Old Town area and be immersed in Chopin, Krakow had a lot of historical value and again a connection to my family history, plus the Salt Mines were awesome! Prague had a wonderful feel to the city and the castle area was amazing. Munich was just awesome, as Germany tends to be, and I enjoyed exploring there. Rome also provided a lot of great adventures with the Roman ruins being my favorite as well as visiting Vatican city and all the churches. Each place created different and special memories and I feel grateful we were able to visit so many places. When all is said and done after both of my trips to Europe I will have visited or been in 8 different countries (Denmark, England, Netherlands (flying in and out of, I say it counts), Poland, Czech, Germany, Spain and Italy) and will have visited 8 major world cities. Nothing to complain about that’s for sure.
In the next few weeks Joe and I have some more fun adventures planned. We’re hoping to visit Odense this weekend and go to the Egeskov Castle, we may also visit Århus or Nordborg and will make one last trip to Copenhagen to see some of the museums we missed while there for my birthday. I’m planning to visit the Geographical Gardens in Kolding and the Nursing Museum as well so still lots of adventures to report on. I’m excited for the next 2 weeks and all the fun we will continue to have! More adventures to come!
Love from Amanda
