Day 8: Train to Munich

Now that I gave you all a little side note which is what I wrote about while on the train for hours I can actually tell you about our time in Munich! Sadly this was our last city and we were feeling kind of bummed about that! But we made the best of it and enjoyed every second!

Our Munich hotel was perfect! It was about 5 minutes from the train station and close enough to all the other sights that we didn’t have to take the subway and could walk everywhere. We checked into the hotel and headed out to the Marienplatz area to see the 5pm glockenspiel. SO COOL! We purchased a BIG pretzel for me to snack on while walking around. This thing was huge and so delicious! :) (But seriously as you can see about the size of my head!).

So after seeing the glockenspiel we walked around a bit and then went to St. Peter’s church to climb the clock tower. It took 293 steps to get to the top but it was so worth it! From the tower you can see the whole city which was really awesome! (The view wasn’t as amazing as the swing chairs in Copenhagen but still really spectacular!) So we spent some time up there enjoying the view and the breeze (the whole trip we had beautiful weather but it was HOT! - OK not as hot as Baltimore has been but still pretty toasty!) I really loved looking at everything and seeing so much of the city. We also saw the May Pole in the market area which was cool. I think it would be really awesome to see them dance around it on May 1! I have sorta of a fascination with the whole May Day thing and really would love to learn more about it and see it in person some day!

So after we did all this we went to the restaurant Joe ate at one night with his parents a few months ago. (There’s some serious benefits to being in cities Joe had already been to like knowing what great places there are to eat at!) I had a pork chop (yup I liked pork on this trip!) and it came with this delicious potato cucumber salad. Yummy! We sat outside in the beer garden which was just perfect! I loved being able to sit outside so much during these trips! Joe got a platter with meat, dumplings, mashed potatoes and you can’t forget the sauerkraut! (He really is a meat and potatoes kind of guys some times!)

After this we headed over to the famous Hofbrauhaus to enjoy the German tradition. We ordered some delicious apple strudel which I ended up having both nights we visited this restaurant. They had a band playing polka music and we sat with some other travelers and had good conversations with them. It was so fun to sit and enjoy the music and atmosphere!
We headed back to the hotel to get some sleep before another busy day and sadly the last day of travels!
